Gloria A. St. Cyr

Vancouver, WA -- Gloria A. St. Cyr, 83, passed away at her home in Vancouver, WA on May 5, 2011 with family by her side.

She was born on July 25, 1927 in Rumford to Mary and Stephen Gallant. Gloria attended Rumford schools and was a member of Stephens High School Class of 1945.

She was married to Alfred St. Cyr for 63 years. They made their home and raised their family in South Rumford until 1965 when job transfers the next few years sent them to Connecticut, New Hampshire, Virginia, and finally to Vancouver, WA in 1977.

Throughout her life, Gloria valued the time she was able to spend with family and friends. She and Fred traveled to various states to visit family for the holidays or important milestones in their grandchildren’s lives. Their travels even took them to South Korea in 1985. She especially enjoyed the many trips to Rumford to attend family and high school reunions. Although she no longer lived in Maine, she always thought of Rumford as home.

Mrs. St. Cyr is survived by her loving husband and five children, David (Marilyn) St. Cyr, Alton, NH; Rosemarie (Jon) Hicks, Edgewood, TX; Alfred (Monica) St. Cyr, St. Georges, KS; Elizabeth (Alan) Andrews, Vancouver, WA; and Stephen (Sarah) St. Cyr, Oak Ridge, NC; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, with a sixth due in July; a brother, Francis Gallant of Rumford; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents and four brothers, Edgar, Alfred, Raymond and Adelard Gallant.

A funeral mass was held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Vancouver, WA on May 11. Her cremated remains will be sent to Rumford for burial in the St. Cyr family plot at St. John’s Cemetery. A graveside committal service will be held on Monday, June 20 at 11 a.m. and will be presided over by Fred’s cousin, Fr. John St.Cyr.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the St Vincent de Paul Society at St Joseph’s Church, Vancouver, WA. Gloria spent many years as a volunteer with this organization helping those in need. Hospice Southwest of Vancouver, WA or a charity of your choice.
