RUMFORD -- Joseph B. “Hawkeye” Thibodeau, 83, of Swain Road passed away unexpectedly on March 17, 2013 at Rumford Hospital.

He was born in Mexico on June 10, 1929, a son of Joseph L. and Rose (Duguay) Thibodeau. Joseph attended St. Theresa’s School and was a graduate of Mexico High School.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Joseph was married to Patricia (Touchette) on September 4, 1956. Together, they celebrated 56 years of marriage. She passed away on January 28, 2012.

He was employed for 42 years with Boise Cascade. Joseph was a communicant of Parish of the Holy Savior. He was a member of the American Legion. Joseph enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and spending time with his family.

Surviving are his children, Sheryl O’Leary and husband, John of Rumford, William F. Thibodeau of Rumford, Jackie Waugh of Dallas, TX, Joseph Thibodeau and wife, Paula of Auburn, Julie Gaudet and husband, Wayne of Morrisville, VT, and Bernie Thibodeau and wife, Rebecca of Rumford; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Patricia; four brothers, Romeo, Bill, Jack and Bobby; two sisters, Louise and Vivian; and a great-grandson, Lucas Vining.

Visiting hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at SG Thibault Funeral Home, 250 Penobscot St., Rumford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Thursday at Parish of the Holy Savior. Spring interment will be in St. John Cemetery.
