Samuel Dorr
PORT CHARLOTTE, FL -- Samuel Dorr, 82, died on July 27, 2012 at Douglas T. Jacobson State Veterans Nursing Home in Port Charlotte, FL after a long illness with Parkinson’s disease.
He was born in Springfield, Missouri on May 6, 1930. Sam lived in Wallingford, CT before moving to Tara Woods in N. Ft. Myers, FL. He was a member of Good Shepherd Methodist Church in N. Ft. Myers and served in the Navy in the Submarine Reserve after WWII and then served four years in the Air Force during the Korean War.
Sam was employed in the experimental department at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in Hartford, CT for 35 years before his retirement in 1989. He had many hobbies, collecting coins, stamps, bibles, guns, music tapes and discs. He also enjoyed dancing, going on cruises and playing cards.
He was a member of the VFW, Masonic Corinthian Lodge #103 in North Haven, CT, 32nd Degree Scottish Rite of Valley of Hartford, CT, a member of the Sphinx Temple of Hartford, CT; and a member of Alcatraz Alumni Assoc. in San Francisco Bay, CA.
His family wants to give a special thanks to all the staff at Douglas T. Jacobson State Veteran’s Nursing Home and Tidewell Hospice in Port Charlotte, FL for the great care he received while he was there.
Sam is survived by his wife of 28 years, Irene Bisson Seeley Dorr; his daughters, Edith Ann Dorr of Manchester, CT and Mary Dorr (Michael) Staffer of Cheshire, CT; stepdaughter, Gail Seeley (Bruce) Mickle of Putney, VT; stepson, Wayne Seeley of TN; many grandchildren, nieces and nephews; special nieces, Dr. Patty (Dr. Russell) Stogsdill of Scarborough, Jeanie (John) Violette Granby, CT; and longtime friends, Roy and Charlotte Ohmes of N. Ft. Myers.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Annabelle Mudra Dorr, his first wife of 32 years, Jean Cocking Dorr and two siblings, Edward Dorr and Paul Dorr.
