John Gordon Dyke
HARTFORD -- John Gordon Dyke, 96, of Hartford, died on July 30, 2013 at the home he built for his wife and children in Hartford.
He was born in Canton, Nov. 16, 1916, a son of Perley and Maude Dyke. He received his education in Jay and Livermore Falls schools.
On Sept 24, 1938, he married Jean M. Farrand in Livermore and she passed on May 26, 2012 after 73 years together.
John was a farmer for many years and was a well-known carpenter. He loved to garden and give vegetables to his family and neighbors. He enjoyed building and remodeling and his greatest pleasure was spending time with his family.
He is survived by a son, John L. Dyke and his wife, Rose of Dixfield; a daughter, Linda M. Green and her husband, Richard of Hartford; grandchildren, John L. Dyke, Matthew Dyke, Jason Dyke, Amanda Dyke, Aaron Green, Melissa Curit, and Valorie Wimmer; 14 great-grandchildren; and a great-great grandchild.
John was predeceased by his six brothers, Edward, Lawrence, William, Chester, Harold and George; four sisters, Earstine, Frances, Madaline and Maude; and a grandson, Christopher Dyke.
The family would like to extend their thanks to Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice nurses, Kathleen Langelier and Patty Parker for their excellent care.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Wiles Remembrance Center, 42 Weld St., Dixfield. Interment will follow at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Canton.
