MERRITT ISLAND, FL -- Charles Fischer, 88, died at Cape Carnaveral Hospital in Merritt Island, FL on April 22, 2012.
Fischer was a resident of Rumford from 1955-1990 where he served as the manager of maintenance for Boise Cascade Paper Company and in other capacities in his over 30-year career there. Fischer grew up in Irvington, New Jersey and graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering from Rutgers University.
He served as lieutenant in the U.S. Army during World War II where he was stationed in Germany.
Prior to making Rumford his home he worked for General Electric in Lynn, MA. He married Helen Fischer, his wife of 62 years, in 1948. He was a member of St Barnabas Episcopal Church.
He is survived by his wife and his four children, David Fischer of Lewiston, Patrice Fischer Johnson of Gatlinburg, TN, Beth Fischer of Denver, CO and Susan Fischer Fusco of Deerfield NH; and 11 grandchildren.
There will be a memorial service this summer in Rumford.
