Gladys White Sampson
FARMINGTON -- Gladys White Sampson, 90, of Vienna, and Vero Beach, FL, died on Oct. 10, 2011 at Franklin Memorial Hospital.
Gladys was born in North Jay on June 29, 1921, the daughter of Carl B. and Lena (Merrill) Wright. She attended Macomber Hill School in North Jay and graduated from Jay High School.
She worked for the Wilton Woolen Mill and retired from Bass Shoe after 25-years.
Gladys married Leon E. White on June 30, 1946. They made their home in Wilton and raised one son, George C. White.
Leon passed away in December of 1990.
Gladys was blessed to find love again and married Colin Sampson on March 6, 1992. They spent summers at their camp on Flying Pond in Vienna where she enjoyed gardening and watching the loons on the lake. They spent winters in Florida.
She was a member of Wilton United Methodist Church, Wilton Senior Citizens and for several years, she trained and served as an on-call volunteer for the Wilton Ambulance Service. She was a caring, down-to-earth woman who was always willing to help others.
She spent hours raising flower, vegetable and berry gardens. She enjoyed crocheting, crafts, cooking and sharing what she made.
She is survived by her husband, Colin; stepson, Dennis Sampson of Florida; grandsons, Michael White and wife, Angela of Washington, Steven White and wife, Tara of Idaho; great-grandchildren, Scarlett, Brittany, Tayler, Matthew and Emma; sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and William Bryant; brother, Myron Wright; nieces, Beverly
Coolidge, Ann Bryant, Nicky Tracy, Alice Mullen; and nephew, Everett Wright.
Gladys was predeceased by her parents; husband, Leon; son, George; and brother, Everett Wright.
