Donald (Don) L. Smith
WHITING, NJ -- Donald (Don) L. Smith, 79, died on Dec. 21, 2012 at his winter home in Whiting, NJ.
Born in Jamestown, NY, he lived in Andover for 24 years until becoming disabled and staying fulltime in New Jersey. He owned property in Andover since the late 1950s.
Don was employed with U.S. Steel, where he started in the Fairless Works and served as local union president. He retired from the U.S.S. sales department after 25 years of service.
He is survived by three daughters, Ellen Smith of Pittsford, NY, Lisa Hobschaidt of North Brunswick, NJ and Karen Andino of East Brunswick, NJ; a son, Donald L. Smith, Jr. of Pennsylvania; a brother-in-law, Nicholas Lambiase of East Windsor, NJ; four grandchildren; and his extended family, including Brian and Terry Martin of Turner, Irene Sinclair of Mexico, Tom and Sharon Sinclair of Mexico, Faye Ann and Mark Tozier of Dixfield, Carol and Kenneth Oliver of Wilton, Donna and Mike Tidswell of Rumford, and Bruce and Toni Sinclair of Turner.
A memorial service with cremains will be held in Andover at the family camp for family and friends on Don’s birthday in July of 2013. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in memory of Don be made to the Andover Educational Fund Inc., (for college scholarships), PO Box 132, Andover, ME 04216.
