Carolyn Butterfield Richard
RUMFORD -- Carolyn Butterfield Richard, 80, of Granite Street, Mexico, died on January 29, 2011 at the Rumford Hospital with her loving family by her side.
She was born in Rumford on November 17, 1930, the daughter of Ralph and Susan (Penley) Butterfield. She graduated from Mexico High School Class of 1948.
Carol worked as a waitress and cook for many years in the area and for over 40 years at Freddie’s Restaurant on Congress Street, Rumford.
She was one of the founders of Hope School in Mexico where she was very active for many years. She was also an active member of her class reunions. Carol enjoyed flying and had her private pilot’s license, she was an excellent typist, and she enjoyed music and could play many instruments. She loved basketball, especially Duke and the Lakers teams.
She was married in Mexico on December 18, 1948 to Omer W. Richard, who died in Rumford on June 15, 1998.
Survivors include a son, Mark Richard and wife, Penny of Lisbon; daughters, Linda LaPlante and husband, Peter of Rumford, Kim Chase and husband, Larry of Lisbon Falls; grandchildren, Brian Chase and wife, Angela of Lisbon, Jodie Robitaille and husband, Eric of Halifax, MA, Jamie Belskis and wife, Alisa of Mexico, Chelsie O’Connell of Portland, Caitlin and Shawn O’Connell of Rumford, Michaela Schmitt of Vancouver, WA, and Cody Richard of Lisbon; great-grandchildren, Maia and Taylor Belskis of Mexico, Arianna Robitaille of Halifax, MA, Brynn Chase of Lisbon, and Darren Schmitt of Vancouver, WA; and sisters, Penny O’Brien of Poland, and Faye Louvat and husband, Roland of Rumford.
She was predeceased by her parents; husband; daughter, Karen; and son, Steve Richard.
