Claudia M. Emery

RUMFORD -- Claudia M. Emery, 81, of Dixfield, died on Jan. 28, 2011, at the Rumford Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.

Born at Severy Hill in Dixfield on Dec. 18, 1929, she was the daughter of Lester and Rachel (Hiltz) Averill. She attended schools in Dixfield.

On June 29,1948, she married Ronald Emery in West Peru. They made their home in Peru.

An avid gardener, she enjoyed her children and grandchildren, bird watching, and reading. She was an active member of the Ladies Extension and West Peru Baptist Church. Mrs. Emery retired from employment from Rumford Community Hospital.

Claudia is survived by her four children, Paula Emery from Connecticut, Ronnie Emery, Jr. and wife, Mary from Florida, John Emery and wife, Cindy from New Hampshire, Rosanne Palumbo and husband, Timothy from Massachusetts; nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Lester and Tom Averill from Dixfield.

She was predeceased by her parents; sister, Betty; and brother, George.

Claudia’s family would like to extend a thank you to all of the nurses and staff of the Rumford Community Home for their care of her over the last four years.

A celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Wiles Remembrance Center, 42 Weld St., Dixfield, with James Hanmer officiating. Family and friends are invited to call at the center one hour prior to the service. Gifts may be given in her memory to Samaritan's Purse, PO Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607. Spring interment will be at the Greenwood Cemtery in Dixfield.
