Mabel A. Perry
WEST PARIS -- Mabel A. Perry, 97, died peacefully on Feb. 19 2011 with nephew, Kim, and niece, Elizabeth by her side, after a short stay at Ledgeview Living Center. She was a longtime resident of 441 Raymond St., Rumford.
She was born in Rumford on January 24, 1914, the daughter of Ernest and Louise (Walsh) Perry. Mabel graduated from Stephens High School in 1932. She received her teaching certificate in 1934 from Farmington Normal School and taught elementary School in Rumford for eight years.
During the early part of World War II she moved to Portland and was employed by Central Maine Power Company, retiring in 1976 after 44 years of service.
Mabel enjoyed spending time with and was very involved in the lives of her extended family, especially her many nieces and nephews, who could always count on her unfailing support and encouragement. She was an accomplished knitter known for her beautiful sweaters and hats, which were prized by all who received them.
A lifelong learner throughout her longevity, Mabel loved to read books and always kept up with the latest news, both local and national. She also enjoyed growing flowers and tomatoes outdoors and maintained many beautiful houseplants. In 1982 she was instrumental in organizing her 50-year high school reunion. She was a Communicant of the Parish of the Holy Savior Catholic Church.
Mabel is survived by brother, Timothy Perry of Alamo, CA; sister-in-law, Marjorie Perry of Westbrook; brother-in-law, Albert Cyr of Spokane, WA; and many nieces and nephews, and grand-nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by sisters, Ernestine Perry, Mary Lobacz, and Louise Cyr; and brothers, Vincent, Merle, Wilfred, Owen, and Lloyd Perry.
The family would like to thank the home care staff of Margaret McLean, special companion Leeanne Gross, Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice nurses, home health aides, social worker, and volunteers, and the staff of Ledgeview Living Center, for the compassionate care she received.
There will be no visiting hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at Parish of the Holy Savior, 126 Maine Ave., Rumford. Spring interment will be in St. John Cemetery.
