Postal service concerns

To the Editor:

I would like to address this letter to all who care about the Dixfield Post Office as much as I do. I realize that the postal service is going through rough times like the rest of society, but I want to present my concerns.

The talk around the many surrounding towns is that the carriers out of the Dixfield office is going to be moved up to the Rumford Post Office. What is going to happen after that?

I can't imagine that they will keep the Dixfield office open just for the postmaster. Is this move going to be cost efficient to them by just moving people around? It seems to me that they are still going to be paying the same expenses.

If this rumor is true, is this going to benefit anyone and if so whom? Definitely not Dixfield.

I have been a resident of Dixfield for a long time and my concern is for myself as well as the elderly residents who walk to the post office several times a week to do their business.

I strongly feel that this is going to be the first for the residents of Dixfield to lose their post office. I am

asking anyone who is as concerned about this issue as myself to please help me fight to keep what we have.

Please call your representatives (Olympia Snowe at 622-8292, Susan Collins at 622-8414 and John Patrick at 357-3670) and show that we want to keep our post office as well as our carriers. I truly feel that it may be more beneficial for them if they closed the offices that they pay out more in expenses then they take in.

Thank you to all who will join me in this matter of trying to keep the Dixfield Post Office the way it is.

Beth Bailey,

Dixfield
