The Basket Lady
Well friends, Mother Nature has regaled us on this fine winter’s morning with a glorious wonderland; looking out the corner window, a gathering of hungry chickadees, a woodpecker and a cardinal are darting from the tree branches to the bird feeders for a quick bite of nourishment.
Now that the birds have returned along with the snow, of course, all seems right with the world today-everything is unfolding as it should. I cannot imagine a winter without birds.
Speaking of flying, Patty Marsh, a community relations employee at SeniorsPlus in Lewiston, contacted the Basket Lady and wanted to donate coats and five vouchers for seniors and not being one to look a gift horse in the mouth, flew done in the red truck, picked up 39 dry cleaned winter coats that were taken to the seniors at the Concorde Apartments and the Beacon House.
Patty Marsh has donated coats for seniors in the Rumford Community for the past three years and that’s due to hats- off referral from Patty Duguay, and the River Valley Healthy Communities Coalition, to the Basket Lady.
It is truly due to the kindness of others that the Basket Lady gets to experience the joy and connection of giving a basket to someone.
During the months of November and December, Basket Lady flew around town (boy, are my arms tired), and gave away 150 baskets to individuals and groups.
The following angels in training made all of those basket give-a-ways possible by their donations; and in so doing, touched others by their kindness and lifted the community with their goodness:
Betty Latalien; Joyce and Robert Saisi; Valerie Jacobs; Barbara “Jean” Smith; Barbara Morse; Sue Ellen Richardson; Lori Grassette; Pam Kaubris; Ellen Snow; Hope Association, Wendy and What Not Shop; Donna Landry; Lane McDonald and Christine Ladd; Christine Ryan.
Kindness not only counts but it adds up!
May God grant you always: A sunbeam to warm you, a moonbeam to charm you, a sheltering angel so nothing can harm you. Laughter to cheer you. Faithful friends near you. And whenever you pray, Heaven to hear you. An Irish Blessing.
Get a basket, give a basket. Give someone a basket of kindness today.
We miss you every day, Dot Sanchas! Until then, smile and live in the present.
