The Basket Lady
In the River Valley, most of the raffles and benefits have themes around spring time baskets and flowers and one such example was a recent “thank you” note in the newspaper sent in by a gentleman from Andover who’d received a surprise May flower basket from the local school children and their kindness touched his heart. It’s true, ‘A little child shall lead us.’ Basket lady loves to hear or read about such stories of kindness especially when that right act-ion brings joy to others.
In life’s lessons 101, when our hearts are open because we have taken down the walls around our heart, then the unconditional, spiritual love, causes everything in our life to blossom and when “we live to give, our open heart reveals our blessings and loves to give for all that has been received."
Years ago down South, I watched a man in his eighties while he planted a peach tree. Another neighbor jokingly asked him, “Do you really expect to eat the fruit of that tree?” The old man replied, “All my life I’ve eaten the fruit from trees planted by others. It’s time for me to plant a tree so that others who follow me can enjoy the fruit.”
I was profoundly struck by the old man’s wisdom. In our neighborhood and town, we’ve been given the opportunity to literally bloom where we are planted and in order to thrive, we have to rely upon each other just as the seed relies upon fertile soil, rain and sunshine to help it grow in to a whole new plant or flower and in nature, we never see anything isolated but everything is connected to something else and if we open our hearts, hands, arms, and minds to each other we have a much greater chance to survive and to fully bloom.
Friend, Just for today, do a kind thing and be a part of the Kind Movement.
The Basket Lady theme is to: Get a basket-Give a basket. We miss your kindness every day, Dot Sanchas! Until then, smile and live in the present.
