The Basket Lady
Diapers for Sheltering Wing!
Many of you have probably heard about the Sheltering Wing, an outreach ministry that the late Naomi Farrar dedicated her missions work to in the River Valley that serves expectant moms-to-be, children, and families in need of baby supplies, cribs, and basic necessities.
Timing is everything because just prior to Memorial Day, Basket Lady had been thinking about Naomi Farrar and recalling how we used to successfully put our resources together for families in need on numerous occasions when I was a Family Educator for the Healthy Beginnings Program.
Getting back to timing…I met up with Sarah Merrill several weeks ago by accident and we were just making small-talk when I was pleasantly surprised to find out that she’s a member of United Baptist Church in West Peru. The Sheltering Wing is now located in the old Peru school and is tended to under the kind eyes and busy hands of Brenda Swan (Naomi’s mother), serving families in need.
The Sheltering Wing will hold a community open house on Sunday, July 14.
I asked Sarah to let me know in what way the Basket Lady could support the needs of the Sheltering Wing and without hesitation, she emphasized an on-going need for diapers and that there’s empty shelves now needing to be filled with diapers of all sizes for infants and toddlers.
Many of you in this community and in the River Valley have participated in giving to worthy causes, you’ve opened your hearts and wallets to help others and you’ve given whatever you had in terms of donations, time, and your prayers; the Sheltering Wing needs your help now with its diaper drive. Sarah Merrill hopes and prays to have the shelves filled with diapers over the summer and perhaps some extra diapers to carry them in to autumn.
This is her mission in honor of Naomi Farrar, her dear friend. Please contact United Baptist Church at: 562-7167, and arrange to drop off your diaper donations or you may leave them on basket ladies front porch or call 357-2266, and I’ll come by and pick them up and get them to the Sheltering Wing on your behalf. Please leave a note with your name and address on it to have your donation acknowledged by the Sheltering Wing.
Thank you friends, so very much and if you have any summer time ideas for diaper drives please leave a message for Brenda Swan at 562-7167 or 562-4822. Basket Lady will raffle off a basket at an event. Put on your thinking caps and think big!
Basket Lady's thoughts for the day: Greet this day with kindness. Be the instrument of kindness wherever you go. No matter what happens today, meet every situation with kindness and love. Be kind to all you meet. Be kind to yourself.
We miss your kindness every day, Dot Sanchas. Until then, smile and live in the present!
