The Basket Lady
A truly fine gentleman that lives in the Good Humor Town was recently inducted into the Maine Baseball Hall of Fame and Basket Lady was among his many admirers but before I tell you the name of this gentleman, I’ll let you in on a bit of table talk, first.
In between bites of a sumptuous meal, a man that we didn’t know sitting at our table was trying to be facetious when he said, “Wonder if there’s any dirt to dig up on John?” Without a moment’s hesitation, the six of us from Rumford looked at the guy and said, “You won’t find any dirt on John Kezal.”
“Congratulations, John!” The Good Humor Town is proud of you and your dear Ann, too.
Several days ago, Sue Mickeriz Burnikel was having a yard sale and a friend told her about the Basket Lady so she called and offered to donate some baskets and stuffed animals to the Basket Lady projects.
I was over at her house within 10 minutes loading up baskets, items for the baskets and Christmas decorations as she spoke about her dear mother, Millie, residing at the Sandy River Nursing Home and conveyed that her mother would be glad to know that the donations would be put to good use in the community.
A very kind man was helping me load up the back of the truck and after a few minutes, asked if I recognized him and I had to honestly admit that I didn’t.
He said, “You don’t remember giving me a basket one afternoon over at the Concorde Apartments?” Ding, ding, went the bell. “Yes, I do now. You’re Fred Stone, the extraordinary maintenance guy that the residents loved especially Auntie Tooti.”
Fred really made me smile when he told me that after he got a basket; he wanted to pass my name and basket mission on to Sue and that’s why she called wanting to donate the baskets. Yes!
The universal law of giving and receiving never fails and kindness is at the heart of it all.
Friends, give someone a basket of kindness today. Do it right away and don’t delay.
Acts of kindness
Warm the heart,
Soothe the soul,
And make the world
Turn more gently.
We miss you every day, Dot Sanchas! Until then, smile and live in the present.
