The Basket Lady
Our community’s lost one of its favored sons and a loyal friend to many with the recent passing of Dr. Robert Saisi. Meader and Son was filled almost to the rafters with folks near and far that came to pay their respect to him and to his beloved family.
Whenever I’d call his house to ask for Joyce, he’d tease me mercilessly with, “Where’s my Joy-cee? Let me see if she’s around or maybe I need to go look for her in town. This is a puzzle." He never let me forget about the time when I tried (in vain) to find out who the lady named Joyce was that left some donations on the porch with a note that had Joyce written on it.
I asked around town, at the Post office, in the grocery store, and even asked total strangers if they knew someone named Joyce only to have everyone shake their heads no. A few folks joked that they certainly did know Waldo’s name and even how to solve the riddle of how to find him!
Our community’s been abundantly blessed by the friendship and generosity of such an amazing and yet, humble human being who certainly did live life his way. Dr. Bob (as I liked to call him), was a gentle teacher and an astute observer of someone’s character and he, along with his beloved “Joy-cee,” from the first time that we met, showed unconditional kindness and confidence in me as a person; they took the time to support all of my basket lady projects and did so even when he was ill. Dr. Bob, thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Basket Lady has donated 25 sunshine baskets to various individuals in the community and through the donations of kind folks like you- all those smiles by the recipients’ have been made possible and I thank you.
