The Basket Lady
I hope everyone had a thankful turkey day; all stuffed, sleep-eyed, trying to stay awake long enough to get through a quarter of football.
In the Good Humor Town, it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas even though the thermometer would beg to differ. We’re all thankful for getting the reprieve on our heating oil bills, thus far. The holidays will come, the snow will fall.
The cardinals will alight on the branch of a balsam fir while the squirrels scurry up and down a birch tree; the holidays will come… in perfect time.
Basket lady was contacted by a kind angel in training and revealed that Santa’s Helpers (at the Mexico Free Store), has an urgent appeal for donations of new toys and children’s clothing in various sizes for families that are in need this Christmas.
The Dollar Store in Rumford sells books, toys and warm socks for only one dollar. Imagine, two hundred people donating just one dollar to Santa’s Helpers- that’s two hundred precious dollars that will buy a stuffed animal, a box of chocolates, a story book or holiday lights for a struggling family that wants to have a happy holiday, too.
Think about the joy that your one dollar can bring to a child when he or she wakes up on Christmas morning to find presents wrapped in love and kindness from the angels in their community.
The basket lady would like to ask for the support of any community organization or church group that would sponsor a toy drive on behalf of Santa’s Helpers. The Santa’s Helpers usually distributes all donations on or by the Dec. 17 each year.
Please contact Margaret McNeal, Free Shop Director, at 369-3677, and ask how your group may bring the gifts of love, generosity and kindness to a child of God this season. Pick up the phone, make the call. Do it today.

Enter into joy. Be zealous for the good. A definition for zealous is: passionate. Now, dear students, you know the complete ABC’s of Faith.
On this day, make your health and safety your number one priority. Then, go about your day showing someone a kindness-bless them and you will receive blessings in abundance.
We miss you every day, Dot Sanchas!
Until then, smile and live in the present.
