Support for higher figure for library

To the Editor:

I will be voting on June 14th in support of the Finance Committee's recommendation of $230,000 for the 2011-12 fiscal year budget.

At best, this amount will maintain current services, personnel and hours open at the library. As a voter and volunteer, I am aware of the difficult choices our public officials are wrestling with, but please, be mindful that chipping away at the library budget each year is a huge threat to its very existence.

The library is a symbol of our past and a gift that deserves to be honored and protected. I believe that voters will agree to the worthiness of this small request by the Finance Committee and further, that there may be a renewal of interest and concern in preserving this important resource in our community.
