All our actions have consequences
To the Editor:
Another mistake has been made.
I was taught that all of our actions have consequences. Now the Town of Rumford is about to learn that lesson. The anti-wind power group did not have any factual information in their argument; they relied on junk science and half truths to scare people.
Their efforts were purely personal and political and now we as a community are going to pay dearly for it by the possible closing of the paper mill.
It turns out that the company that intended to buy the co-generation plant from Newpage backed out because of the defeat of the last wind ordinance vote. The loss of the Rumford project has caused Re-energy, Inc. to reconsider that purchase and the consequence of the sale falling through has put the mill in a position of considering bankruptcy. What net effect this will have on the Rumford mill is still unanswered.
So the next time someone tries to scare you into making a decision, stop and look closely at what they stand to gain and what you stand to lose. All actions have consequences.
The actions of this small group have now put all of us in harm's way.
