The rock at Howard Pond
To the Editor:
Pam Puiia's letter about the rock and her concern about Hanover's tax money being spent over the rock is obsolutely correct.
The rock is in the middle of the town road. The motorists want it gone. The planning board wants it gone. The code
enforcement officer wants it gone. The road crew wants it out of the way. I plowed the driveway last winter and it sure was in the way of plowing.
The rock lovers don't realize that the rock had already lost its mystic and would look even more silly with a black top drive on both sides.
The rock lovers are letter nostalia overrule common sense and decency. This is a battle the rock folks cannot win. There isn't a judge or a jury in the State of Maine that would ever rule for them.
Our select board is fast becoming the laughing stock of Oxford County. Pam is right. It is stupid for the town to spend thousands of dollars over a rock in the middle of the road.
I urge all Hanover taxpayers to call our selectmen and tell them to show better judgment.
Bob Brown,
Hanover
