The Chamber Chatter
Our friends at Brian’s Bistro are not only offering the “$5 Burger Night” on Wednesdays but they will also be opened on Monday nights from 4 to 9 p.m. with a Mexican menu only! Burritos, quesadillas, enchiladas and a great variety of other Mexican dishes are on the menu (Jessica just brought me one). This plus a great choice of “aperitivos” (appetizers) and “coctels” (cocktails) are being offered. A great destination for your Monday night fiesta!!
“Skype” is the best thing since sliced bread. When I was a kid there were science fiction stories of video phones and you could amazingly see the person you are talking to on the telephone! I know it (Skype) has been around for a while but in the Perry household it is new and we are able to see and talk to our grandson when we are not able to travel to Boston. It’s the next best thing to being there! At no extra cost (yet).
Just a reminder that Amato’s at 65 Lincoln Ave in Rumford is having its official “Grand Opening” ceremony on Saturday. This will be kicked off by the ribbon cutting ceremony at 11 a.m.
My nephew sent me information about, Count Rumford whom the town of Rumford was presumably named after (more detail can be discovered in the book, “A History of Rumford, Maine” by Jon Leane). The article that my nephew Matthew sent me does not even mention our town because Matt lives in Woburn, MA where life began for Sir Benjamin Thompson (Count Rumford) in 1753.
There is a bronze statue (circa 1900) that is the exact replica of one that exists in Munich, Germany that was erected by the then king of Bavaria in gratitude of the citizens of Bavaria. It appears that the Count was a many faceted and interesting character renowned as a soldier, statesman and scientist!
