The Chamber Chatter
If you come into the Rumford Information Center (for those who do not know it is right behind Paul Bunyan), you will see a new map of the world. We ask that the visitors to the Center stick a pin in the area where they live. Besides the new map there is a brand new frame donated by Puiia Lumber Co. (thanks Tom).
The Town of Rumford and RVCC would like to thank not only Puiia’s but also Paul and Brian Bickford who donated their time to attach the new map and frame to the wall in the Center. It already has pins from places in Germany, Australia and the Ukraine and the map has only been on the wall for a week!
It is really interesting to be at the Center and be able to converse with the visitors and hear their personal stories and ask them about their homes. It is unbelievable how well they speak our language and I don’t know a single word of German or Ukrainian (yes they have their own language) or Russian!
If you are interested in hiking, the Peak-A-Week group meets every Wednesday in the Rumford Information Center at 5 p.m. The list of the weekly hike destinations is posted in the Center. There is also a group that meets there on Mondays. The Pond-A-Week group meets at 5 p.m. on Mondays (for the summer) and goes to the different ponds in the area to canoe or kayak. If there are questions about that group, call John Cogley at 364-7493 or 357-7491. Have fun on the water!
Be on the lookout for businesses (including the Rumford Information Center) selling the River Valley Chamber of Commerce Stash of Cash tickets! The drawings take place in November (every weekday). We will give away $50 a day and there are three wildcat drawings of $100 and one for $200. If your name is pulled you go back into the “pot” and can win again and again. The proceeds from the drawings help with events and community projects in the River Valley area.
Want to be a Director for the River Valley Chamber of Commerce? Please contact me. Currently there are two openings and we are looking for someone who is dedicated and would like to see the businesses in the River Valley continue to be successful as well as promote this area.
If you would like more information on any of the Chamber’s events, call the office at 364-3241 or email firstname.lastname@example.org checkout our website www.rivervalleychamber.com.
