The Chamber Chatter
It should be a fun night at Black Mountain of Maine on Friday, September 7 at the “End of Summer Deck Party.” There will be a Social Hour from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. followed by a barbeque (RSVP for the BBQ at 364-8977) with food featured from the Pineland Farms Food Groups. Starting at 7:30 p.m., the renowned multi-talented singer/songwriter/guitarist, Jim Gallant will provide great entertainment. You can enjoy the meal and music for $10. The music cover only is $5.
The Annual Donald E. Ryerson Memorial Poker Run is taking place on Saturday. Registration is from 8 to 10 a.m. at the ATV Riders Park-N-Ride in Roxbury Notch (Rte. 120W).
The Rumford Information Center has been keeping the volunteers busy (and happy) taking care of the various and interesting visitors to the area. They come from all over the USA with a heavy influx of Canadians and recent visitors from the Czech Republic, Germany, Italy, Korea and Ekaterinburg, Russia (as volunteer Ann Welch pointed out the sight of the 1917 slaughter of the Tsar Nicholas and his entire family). It has been a busy summer season and once again I am certain that the center will be buzzing with the “leaf peepers” this fall to view the natural splendor of the River Valley. Thanks to Tom Puiia for answering the much asked visitor question, “how tall is Paul Bunyan?" He is 20 feet tall!
School is back in session. We motorists must be careful as the students will be crossing the streets and excited to get back and see their friends and teachers.
The River Valley Fourth of July Celebration Committee will start with plans for the 2013 fireworks at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, October 9 in the Rumford Police Department’s conference room. If you have any ideas and/or would like to help the committee, feel free to attend the meeting.
