The Chamber Chatter
History states that only five women Pilgrims survived the first year at the Plymouth settlement and they were the first ones to cook and prepare the first meager celebration meal, in 1621. Journals say the celebration lasted three days! This is personally my favorite holiday. Do you know the famous Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade began in 1924? When my kids were at home (a little after 1924), it was tradition for all of us to get up and watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. This holiday is all about family for me and I can’t wait to be with them again and watch the parade with them and my grandson.
Those of you that are wondering about the winners for the Stash for Cash Drawings up to this point can check the calendar in the window of the Rumford Information Center or access our website www.rivervalleychamber.com where the winners are listed by the date. That would also give you a chance to visit the many nuances of our website and check out, upcoming events, biographies of our Directors, information about our members and much more. I do call the winners on the day that the ticket is drawn.
With the Christmas in the Valley Parade coming right up (Dec. 2) we are still looking for more entries for the parade. You can contact me at the number or email listed below and I will forward you the needed documentation. This year the parade floats will stop on Congress St. as Santa proceeds to the end of the street for the tree lighting ceremony. Then everyone is invited to the Rumford fire house where Santa will be available for picture taking.
