On May 26, The Mystic Theater at 49 Franklin will present “Kings of Kards,” Jeff McBride who will be performing for the public and lecturing (after the performance) for local magicians.
Interestingly enough, Rumford had its own “King of Cards”, Dr. James William Elliott (1874-1920) and McBride will visit the grave of Dr. Elliott at Abbott Mills Cemetery to pay homage to the great card manipulator. The show will start at 7 p.m. (doors open at 6 p.m.) and tickets are on sale in advance at, All That Jazz, Bartash Cards and Gifts (Congress St.) or on-line at www.49franklin.com.
Admission is $30 per person; children under 12 years of age $10. McBride will deliver a special 90 minute lecture for magicians at 9 p.m. he will also offer a four-hour Master Class at 1 p.m. on May 27. Call Scot at 369-0129 if you are a magician and you are interested in attending.
Soon the Rumford Information Center will be open for its summer hours (9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily). Once again we have a wonderful group of volunteers manning the center helping visitors with any questions concerning the River Valley area and beyond. Once again I urge you to come to your Center and see for yourself everything that is offered to anyone who stops at the facility.
For instance, the River Valley Four Season Visitor’s Guide is offered to all that visit the center. The new Guide will be coming out at the end of the month to once again help provide the visitor with any pertinent information concerning the River Valley’s ten towns and all that they have to offer. It features the RVCC member’s directory in the brochure.
At the Rumford Information Center, there are also a plethora of maps and handouts that are available to anyone that includes information about the area businesses. The Parks Department does great keeping the Center area in shape for the visitors to use the picnic tables and visit the Boivin Park. Many times the Parks Dept. and others (volunteers, etc.) have to clean the parking lot of trash left behind (especially after a weekend). We ask that all should please take care of the refuse by utilizing the trash receptacles provided by the Town of Rumford.
After the latest meeting of the River Valley Fourth of July Celebration Committee, it was decided that there will be a fee for any for-profit vendor at the celebration that day. The vendors who were with us last year will get first chance at returning but we are accepting more vendors this year. If you are an interested vendor, please call 364-3241 or email email@example.com, or call Greg Buccina at 364-3392. The committee is also seeking volunteers to help in various ways on Independence Day. We are seeking individuals willing to help out with the kid’s games, attending to the admission gates, helping with various projects, etc.
