Two distinct local issues for Dixfield voters
To the Editor:
The citizens of Dixfield have two very distinct local issues to vote on Nov. 6.
First is their decision on whether the town should take advantage of the proposed investment of Patriot Renewables in wind towers in Dixfield or not. This decision will be made by the majority of citizens voting.
If the citizens vote "yes" for the wind ordinance being presented, the project will proceed. If the citizens vote "no," an ordinance will be prepared that will prevent wind towers from being built in Dixfield. This was made clear by the Selectboard prior to June, 2012, and the results should be honored by whomever the members of the Board will be following the election.
Second, is the choice of selectman: Norman Mitchell or myself. I am personally in favor of wind towers and the economic boost they could bring to the town over the next several years but this is not my choice to make alone, or with the selectboard should I be elected.
I would like to suggest though, that if I am elected, I could offer thoughtful and careful choices to give the town a moderate and informed vote based on any issues to come before the board. Several proposals have already been made for consideration following the election and I would like to be able to help make those decisions based on what I perceive to be the best choices for the town as a whole.
