I trust everyone survived the holiday season and are fast on your way to ditching the New Year resolutions you made. The members Christmas party was well attended with more than 130 members and guests present.
They were treated to a great meal provided by Kelly D and her kitchen crew. Noel and Don provided great music to dance the night away. The Comedian Night was a small crowd, but they were entertained by three very talented comedians. Everyone in attendance agreed that they will attend again when they come back this spring.
The New Year's Day brunch was amazing with most of the food donated by members of the Post. As stated last month the annual letter has been sent out and the winners of the raffle are as follows: 1st Prize – Kenneth Waugh, 2nd Prize – Cam Shaw and 3rd Prize (4) George Standeven, Greg Worthley, Nick Diconzo and Paul Davis. Please stop by the Post to claim your prize.
Blue Star Banner ceremonies were conducted this month one to Holly Whittermore at VIP in Mexico during her break and for Roger and Marcel Miller prior to this meeting. Four members of the Post were at the opening ceremony at Black Mountain for the Handicap Skiing, they helped conduct the flag raising. The next District meeting will be January 17 at South Paris at 7 p.m.; all legionnaires are encouraged to attend. The Mid-Winter Conference is on January 21 at the Fireside Inn and Suites in Auburn. This should be a very informative gathering. It is also the time that candidates make their intentions known of which department office they will be running for and to be voted on at the Department Convention held in June at Bangor.
Elections for all entities within the Legion family i.e. Legion, Ladies Auxillary and the Sons of the American legion, will be held in April. Any member in good standing is eligible to run for an office. So please let your intentions known prior to the March meeting when nominations are taken. Next month's meeting once again falls on Super Bowl Sunday. It is also when we do the Four Chaplain Ceremony. This ceremony is open to the public. If you have not attended before, mark your calendar. The ceremony will start at 3 p.m. followed by our meal followed by our monthly meeting. Hope to see you there. If you have not paid your 2012 dues, please do so, that way you won’t receive a phone call or post card reminder. After February 1, you will lose your membership to the Maine Legionnaire and the Legion Magazine and any additional insurance you may have through the Legion.
So now is a good time to pay those 2012 dues.
