Thanks to Roxbury Pond buoy supporters

To the Editor:

We would like to update all recent supporters to the SLCOA Buoy Marker Fund. This Buoy Fund drive has been very successful in the past months. The community has donated $3,555 of the monies (exceeded our goal) towards our estimated goal of $3,130 needed to complete this project.

Thanks again for your generous support of our efforts to assist in reaching this goal for the Buoy Markers on Ellis Pond (Roxbury Pond). The goal of the SLCOA Buoy Fund Committee is to make a difference at Ellis Pond. We will continue to see improvements in Safety & Recreation on Ellis Pond (Roxbury Pond) with such generous support like this.

Buoy Fund Drive Committee has ordered the 23 buoys for 2012 with monies received (21 to be installed with 2 spares for quick replacement if damaged). These were ordered in September 2011 for delivery in spring of 2012. They will be installed before Memorial Day 2012.

The buoy-connecting chain with all necessary connecting shackles have been purchased and is on hand.

Anchor weights for the buoys, informational signs and informational flyers will be ordered soon to be delivered in the spring. We will have all materials on order soon to enable buoys to be installed before Memorial Day of 2012. A notice will be sent and/or posted in the spring to allow all who want to assist in installation of the buoys.

An actual buoy will be on display periodically this spring at the newly installed boat launch in Roxbury for anyone wishing to see what they look like. Please stop and take a look when you return this Spring.

SLCOA will need to apply for a mandated state permit to allow buoys to be installed in 2012. When all permits for installation of buoys have been obtained, the remainder of funds will be handed over to the SLCOA to be kept in a Buoy Maintenance fund for any future needed repairs.

To all that may still wish to contribute to this worthy cause you may pick up donation forms from Ellis Pond Variety Store in Roxbury or contact myself at 441-3630 to have details sent to you.
