Support Mexico Rec Department

To the Editor:

I am writing to express my appreciation and support for The Mexico Recreation Department.

As a taxpayer and parent living in Mexico, I was so excited to have programs offered in Mexico last year. My children participated in both the soccer and basketball programs and they both were excellent. As a family of five I felt the programs were reasonably priced and the schedule was appropriate for school age children.

Wayne Sevigny and his team of volunteers were excellent in communicating with me regarding schedules and expectations which is so important for my busy family.

Wayne has recruited countless volunteers, sought out grant monies, and has spent many hours to renovate the recreation facilities throughout Mexico.

It has been nice to be able to take my family to the REC Center or to the REC Park and know they are safe, fun places for my family to go and my children to play.

In the past I have had to leave Mexico and go to neighboring communities to have my children participate in extra curricular activities. This meant

I was spending more for the program because I was not a resident, spending more money driving to these programs, spending money at stores in other towns and we were getting home later which is difficult for my family and my young children.

I understand all towns and families are struggling to reduce budgets and find places where there are inefficiencies. This is a difficult economic climate and I know that. I strongly believe cutting programs that serve children is not the place to reduce a budget. Keeping families and children connected to the community they live in should be a priority. I want to stay here to raise my children and want them to have an interest in staying here to raise their own children and they will make that decision based on the experience they have as children in the Town of Mexico.

Wayne Sevigny is committed to providing this positive experience for children.

Please show your support for our children in our community, Wayne Sevigny, and the Mexico Recreation Department and support their budget.

Crystal Duguay,

Mexico
