Kudos for Cherri
To The Editor:
I wish to take this opportunity to thank The Rumford Falls Times and your hard working reporter Cherri Crockett for the two wonderful articles she wrote (Dec. 21, 2011) (Dec. 28, 2011) featuring the Region 9 Forestry/Wood Harvesting Program, involving the community service our students completed for Mahoosuc Land Trust, on the trails going up White Cap Mountain.
Cherri was such a willing “trooper” and hiked the entire mile up the mountain with the group and stayed most of the day investigating and watching the operations, to see first hand what happens on a normal day and also, when a the unexpected happens and a “teaching moment” occurs, with a positive outcome.
A lot of effort went into her research and the final articles. It’s was refreshing to see how much she showed good, honest examples of how some students excel more when they have found something they enjoy learning and find useful to them in their lives.
We truly appreciate the positive re-enforcement you gave to the students of the Forestry Program, educating the public of the good work of Mahoosuc Land Trust and Region 9.
Thus, I conclude with “Thank you Cherri, for the unexpected surprise of your company, inquiry and honest reporting.”

Forestry Instructor, Region 9
