Selectmen working on wind ordinance the right way

To the Editor:

What have our Rumford Board of Selectmen done to investigate the wind turbine situation as they seek to craft a town ordinance?

What research have the selectmen done “on the ground?”

I understand the Rumford town manager and a selectmen took a day trip to Kibby Township Wind Farm and toured the site with the plant manager, speaking with employees.

Another selectman visited Mars Hill on two occasions. The second trip was a five day trip. These turbines are sighted on Big Rock Ski Area property next to the ski slope. The selectman and his wife talked to many local residents about the turbines and heard no negative feedback from anyone.

Other selectmen have talked to the Mars Hill town manager over the past few months and have received no negative feedback. The Mars Hill operation has been operating since 2006 and is close to the downtown area, by the way.

Do you think the Rumford selectmen are considering this wind turbine ordinance in ignorance?

I do not. They have gone to the wind turbine sites, talked to people, to get “on the ground” information. They have been practical.

I think the Rumford Board of Selectmen are working on a wind turbine ordinance for our town in the right way. I support their efforts.

Rumford
