Support for Sheryl Briggs
To the Editor:
Sheryl Briggs is running for her fourth and final term as our state representative for District 93.
I support Sheryl Briggs because I appreciate the fact that she was an ordinary citizen with no previous political experience who followed her heart and mind and made the commitment to the people of the State of Maine and District 93.
Sheryl has always listened and learned about the issues and concerns of the people she represents. She stands firm on matters she is passionate about, but can also be open to changing her position when convinced that a different approach makes more sense for all involved.
As a member of the Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Committee, Sheryl supported the closing of smelting on Richardson Lake five years ago. This was not a popular decision for many people and families who enjoyed the smelting tradition, of which my family is one; however, over the past five years since the closing, fishing has improved dramatically.
I will always be grateful for the opportunity I had three years ago to job shadow Rep. Briggs for a day in the life of a member of the House of Representatives or “the people’s house” as Sheryl called it. We should all be thankful and grateful
for the dedication exhibited by Sheryl Briggs, and for all those who choose to make the sacrifice to serve their community, their districts, and the people of the State of Maine. I hope the voters of District 93 will re-elect Sheryl one more term so
that she can continue to work in the best interests of the citizens and their concerns, for whom she cares so deeply.
