Neighbors helping neighbors

To the Editor:

Upon returning from the Mexico Christmas parade, we noticed a car parked in a spot that is very unusual considering we live on a dead end dirt road.

Knowing that it is hunting season and any hunter should have been out in the woods by that time of night, I called ORCC to report my concern. A deputy called me back and informed me there was nothing they could do until someone is reported missing, but did mention the first name of the owner which is a neighbor on a different road.

I told the deputy that maybe he could not do anything but I could go check and make sure everything was okay. I went just to make sure this person was home. I knocked on the door and explained why I was there and my concern. The woman looked into the living room where her husband was fast asleep in his chair. At that point, I knew everything was okay and she thanked me for my concern.

The following day, maybe around three, we hear a gunshot out back. A little whole later we hear a knock on the door. A man was standing there asking if we minded him going outback through the trail we made for sapping with his wheeler so he could drag it out.

Of course you can. We offered to throw it on the back of ours instead of dragging it. Later, we get a tap on the door. The same man was standing there with a package of moose meat. I was so shocked I almost could not speak. Then, a couple weeks later, the same man stopped and dropped off some deer meat. I thanked him with all my heart for that was so nice of him to do such a thing.

The moral of this story is, with all the stuff that is going on the back stabbing, the complaints, the accusing, the pure hatefulness, I truly believe some people in this community have forgot what living in a small town is, what it stands for. It has gotten to the point where neighbors are against neighbors and that is such a sad thing to watch.

Some people have so much hate for others it is overtaking their rational thinking. People are taking their personal issues out where it is business. I myself have personal issues with selectmen, but do you see me causing hate in the town. No! I beliebe it is time for people in this community to stop the hate.

Some people think they are helping the town by the lawsuits, the petitions, but in all actuality, all they are doing is destroying this small community that was always so helping to one another. With all the crap you are pulling, our taxes will go up. Think about it!

To have a whole new select board, then replace the secretary; all that's going to do is leave our town in total turmoil, therefore costing the taxpayers more money. I know what we as a town voted, but we also need to listen to the town lawyer that we pay a great deal of money to and wait for the term to be up, not oust right in the middle of it.

To post things in public and not even have the guts to sign your name to it, says what kind of people are causing all the hate in this town. People with no morals, people that I see have nothing better to do than destroy people's lives, to cause hate to destroy our community.

For all of these people, why don't you get off your butts, stop all the hate and volunteer in this small community for I do not believe there is a single one of you that have volunteered to help this community a day in your life. Most I see have only destroyed it, cause hatred among all in the community.

People are complaining about cars being washed at the fire station. These people that are washing the cars/trucks, some are members of the department that volunteer to get up at all hours of the day and night in any weather to help. These people also miss meals, holiday dinners, birthdays, family outings, many times are late for work, or even miss work entirely cause they just cannot leave a structure fire in the middle of it.

These people also deal with very incredibly horrific scenes at times. Washing a car every now and then is a very small price to pay to have the volunteers we do. People are complaining about taxes now. If we had a paid department, the taxes are going to go even higher.

If you want to wash your car there, Peru fire always needs volunteers. There is always a place for everyone. Then maybe you would not have enough time to think how you're going to destroy someone, and cause such a big disturbance.

There are also State Police and Oxford Sheriffs and Forest Rangers who wash their cruisers there. The fire station is a substation for these people. Officers need to keep their cars clean. So would you rather have these officers travel either to Gray or Paris to wash them? But them all you loathing people would do is complain about how long it took them to respond to your emergency.

Another point for you people to think about. It also helps the well at the station for using water keeps the veins in the well open. But yet you people have so much hate in you that thought probably never crossed your mind.

Now let's talk about the ones of you that threaten to sue the town for the road crew was doing their job and fixing the road as state law allows. If taxes are such a big concern of your, then stop the hate! Let's remember our town's motto -- Neighbors Helping Neighbors.
