Outpouring of support was overwhelming
To the Editor:
At the Steve Day 5K benefit, there were many people who volunteered, participated, donated baked goods or auction items and just showed up. There was a lot of energy shared throughout the day. The outpouring of support was overwhelming.
The money that was raised far exceeded any expectation Jennifer and I had. We dropped a check off with Steve and Paula last Friday and they couldn’t believe our little community could be so giving. They are very grateful for all the support they have received since Steve’s first diagnosis.
Jennifer and I would like to extend a thank you to everybody who helped make the day what it was. Special thanks to the parks department for the use of the Hosmer Field Complex, the Town of Rumford for providing police presence at the crossings and along the running route, the Rumford Public Works Department for the use of barricades and cones, Med-Care for being present in case of an emergency, Carrabassett Spring Water for keeping everybody hydrated, Nicol’s Brothers Logging for the post-race food, Chisholm Ski Club for timing the event; Adley Auto, The Fitch Company, Waugh’s Mountain View Electric and White’s Yard Work for the T-shirts; Road ID for the bibs, Active.com for preregistration, Black Mountain of Maine for the use of the lodge, all the bakers who donated to the bake sale, all the people who donated auction items, all the volunteers that helped in the planning and execution of the day’s events and finally to all the people who came out to participate.
We thank you and Steve and Paula thank you.
