Thanks for providing comfort kits
Editor's note: Last year, 20 members of area Girl Scout Troop 676 put together 150 Comfort Kits, which they presented to the American Red Cross in Lewiston. This letter is in response to that effort.
To the Editor:
Thank you for reaching out.
We did in fact respond to the needs of the family in Mexico - Red Cross provided assistance with food and clothing. We did in fact provide this family with the comfort kits made by the dedicated troop members.
The family was very excited to receive the comfort kits because they are not staying in a hotel. They are staying with family members and the family lost all of their possessions, including toothbrushes, tooth paste and all the other personal hygiene products that are taken for granted.
Since the delivery of the Comfort Kits, we have provided comforts to families who have suffered loss because of a house fire in the Oxford County towns of Hartford, Norway, Hiram, Bethel, Fryeburg, Dixfield and West Paris. Just yesterday, we provided some of the troop made comfort kits to three families who had an apartment fire the same night the family in Mexico had a fire!
I can't begin to tell you how important and how appreciative people are to receive the troop-made comfort kits! Please let the girls know how appreciative the Red Cross is for helping clients feel a little better with their awesome comfort kit.
