Thanks for successful summer reading program
To the Editor:
I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who helped make the Rumford Public Library summer reading program such a success this year.
The kids did an amazing job, racking up 479 hours of reading time. That topped last year's total by 200 hours! They earned certificates from SubWay, Pizza Hut, Sam's Italians, McDonalds and Frosty Delight locally. The Big Adventure Center in Bethel, Old Fort Western and the Portland Sea Dog's also contributed to our efforts to keep kids reading this summer. Hannaford Brothers donated an incredible cake to our reading awards party, much to the delicious delight of everyone who attended.
I would like to applaud Zach Hodge, Susie DeRoehn and Lisa Picard for all the hard work they put into the Rumford Childrens Theater production of Beauty and the Beast. The cast and crew should be very proud of their outstanding performances. Many thanks to the staff of the Mountain Valley Middle school for providing a venue for the play.
We are lucky to live in a town with so much local talent. “Snake Man” Rob White, “Mr. I the science guy” Bitsy Ionta and the Spoons Band featuring Lori Grassette and Bill Hoyt showcased an over-abundance of entertainment. From away, Conjuring Carroll and the Chewonki Foundation dazzled and delighted us. I'm grateful to all them for contributing to the 763 patron visits we experienced on Wednesday afternoons.
Last but by no means least, I would like to thank the parents, caregivers and staff of the local school summer program for bringing the kids to the library and encouraging them at home to keep up their reading skills. The summer months are so important to continued educational success.
Thank you all for supporting area children.
