A yes vote on Question One
To the Editor:
I am writing to encourage your readers to step up and restore Mainers' right to register to vote on Election Day by voting "yes" on Question One.
Ending this right, which has been in place for 38 years, will make it harder for people to exercise their right to vote. In 2008, over 50,000 eligible voters would have been turned away at the polls if not for same day registration.
The opposition has claimed fraud yet had all its claims discredited. The issue of strain on election workers was similarly not credible as evidenced by statements by individuals and associations representing towns and cities. The coalition of groups supporting the Peoples Veto and virtually all endorsements agrees for 38 years, Maine has had clean, high-participation elections. Please keep it that way and vote "yes" on One.
