Oxford County Republicans

PARIS -- Senator Garrett Mason (R-Androscoggin) updated local Republicans on progress of charter school legislation in Augusta.

Senator Garrett Mason of Androscoggin County attended the April Oxford County Republican Committee as the keynote speaker. Those in attendance heard a strong argument made in support of improving education in Maine by allowing Charter schools.

“There are 40 States in the country that currently allow for Charter schools but here in Maine we’ve never been able to pass charter school legislation.” Said Senator Mason. “Across the Nation there has been bi-partisan support of this effort and we continually see a fight put up against this effort to improve education here in Maine.”

Maine has consistently ranked at the bottom of the list in education after years of democrat controlled legislature. In 2010, Maine finished 33 out of the 36 states competing for “Race to the Top” competition for up to $75 million to advance education reforms.

The April meeting also included legislative updates by Rep. Jim Hamper (R-Oxford), as well as representatives from Senator Snowe and Senator Collin’s office. The delicious meal was prepared by the ladies of the Hannibal Hamlin Republican Women.

The announcement of the upcoming events for Oxford County Republican Committee included June Happy Days community event in Rumford at 49 Franklin Street on June 25th. This will be an opportunity to gather with our friends from the River Valley area.

They May meeting will be held in Bryant Pond at the Franklin Grange on May 10, with social hour from 5:30-6:30 p.m. followed by dinner and meeting.
