Scare tactics have begun
To the Editor:
Just as I predicted; the scare tactics have begun.
I told you as honestly and clearly as I could. I have attended almost every selectmen's meeting since 1999. I feel I am very education in town business, more so than some of the selectmen.
None of the necessary services in town will end. We have a "hamburg town" living on a "steak budget." Our population is getting smaller. We cannot go on as usual.
As expected at our so-called "town meeting," issues were brought up by each special interest group. Fire department said "don't cut my budget; I need a new truck."
Librarian has said if she would not keep her job if she couldn't get the $18,000 health insurance given to fulltime employees.
George Byam spoke in defense of the rec department; said it was a good thing for kids. What he did not say was Mexico foots the whole bill for all kids playing. Kids pay the same fee no matter what town they come from. A free ride for all the surrounding towns.
A budget of $114,000 for Mexico taxpayers.
No one wants to make any cuts; that is why we must vote "yes" on the spending cap and force the selectmen to cut.
This is not a good budget. Vote "no" on all articles except #15 and the one on a separate sheet. Be sure and say "yes" to these.
By doing this, you will send a clear message that we want tax cuts and they will come up with lower numbers.
No way is our police, fire, ambulance or public works going to disappear. Statements like these are only to scare you. Your choice, your dollar, your vote.
I also suggest James (Jimmy) McDonald and Byron Ouellette for selectmen. They both have spoken up in support of the proposed tax cap.
