Vote against the rec budget
To the Editor:
It was stated in the Sun Journal on July 23 that "Mexico taxes were going up anyway."
This was said by the Rec Committee chairwoman. Is she suggesting that just because our taxes are already going up that we should accept the high rec budget and raise our taxes even higher?
Also, the same person stated our senior citizens are complaining. Well, they have good reasons to complain with taxes going up every year. Fixed income means your income doesn't go up so you must be real good at stretching and spreading your income to keep up with the bills. There comes a time when there is no way to spread it thin enough and some things have to end or be given up.
We had a great deal with GRCC for our town. For years, we paid them $3,400 and they provided all of our children summer baseball, t-ball, summer soccer and swimming lessons. If you wanted a shirt or cap, you paid for it. Our new Mexico rec director has only duplicated these programs and now he wants a big salary to keep doing so.
Vote "no" on Aug. 30 -- we can always go back to GRCC, who did a great job for us for many, many years.
