We will try again next year
To the Editor:
Now that the voting for the Mexico Rec Department is over, people are asking if I mind being the loser. I do not consider myself a loser as I presented the facts to the people and they chose to go the other way.
I said your taxes will go up, not 50 cents a month like the rec dept. said but much more. When your taxes are based on mils, you can never say a statement like "50 cents a month" for everyone. For example, a person with a $25,000 home pays less than one worth $50,000, so you cannot put a single dollar price raise for all taxpayers.
The rec dept. put up signs everywhere by the rec dept. and most held false information. There was never a question of anything closing. Our Rec Dept. was going to go on as usual only on a smaller budget and smaller salary for the director if the citizens chose the smaller number.
So to all you people who voted "yes," when you get your tax bill, read it and weep. To those who said "no thank you," we will try again next year.
