Not listening is wrong
To the Editor:
At the Mexico selectmen's meeting, the selectmen, on advice from the town manager, voted to take money from the sewer department put it in administrative account so "office girls" could get a 3 percent raise.
This is not what the people voted for. They said "no" to this administrative article twice and that meant it was supposed to go back to last year's figures and no raises for administration, according to our ordinance.
Not listening to the people who said "no" is wrong on the part of our selectmen.
When confronted about how they were supposed to represent the people, the answer was "we are the people." I agree they are part of the townspeople, but we pay them to represent us. If that is a problem for them, they should resign.
It seemed like a very self-serving idea for the town manager to suggest to selectmen to take money from the sewer department to give out 3 percent raises to administration especially since he is part of administration and he was going into executive session right after the meeting to discuss his salary and contract!
If you feel it is wrong what they did to us voters, come to the Sept. 24 meeting.
As to the Planning Board refusing to make an ordinance as requested by Dr. Aniel to give us recall rights, they said that we do not recall rights because there is no problem between boards.
The problem is not within board but between the Board of Selectmen and the people. They do not honor the results of people's vote.
Only one selectman spoke up and said he help it was wrong what was done but the other four selectmen just sat there and offered no support. Byron Ouellette is a true representative of the people. He listens to the voters.
