Resident questions plow bid
To the Editor:
It has come to my attention this year that the sanding and plowing bid was not awarded to Patrick Gorham.
In my opinion, Pat has done a fine job under very harsh and unpredictable conditions. He has plowed these roads for 15 years. Last winter, Pat received a letter of commendation from the town on a fine performance.
Pat did not increase his bid in the past two years. He also had the proper equipment and insurance at the time of the bid.
The bid was awarded to a resident of Turner who produced only pictures of his available equipment and would be in the process of obtaining more equipment. He would also be in the process of obtaining the proper insurances and his bid came in at one dollar higher than Pat's.
In attending a selectmen's meeting, it was brought to my attention that no former references or background check were required by the town.
There is something in the woodpile somewhere. I hope the residents of Roxbury won't sweep this one out the door.
