Christmas in July celebrated at Worthley Pond
To the Editor:
Worthley Pond Association celebrated its annual Christmas in July the weekend of July 27-29. The highlights include cottages decorated with festive lights, trees decorated, inflated snowmen, santas and reindeer, too. Also, boats circling the pond decorated in the Christmas spirit.
We thought last year’s festivities were successful with many camp and boat owners participating, but this year was even bigger and better. Almost three quarters of the cottages were decorated.
Our judges this year were Rumford selectman Jolene Lovejoy and her husband Richard. I thank them for taking time to participate in our celebration. They both said they were impressed with the overall participation by Worthley Pond residents in the weekend event.
This year’s winners for best cottage decorations went to Steve Gallant, Cindy Hamanne and Peter and Pat Brawn, with honorable mentions going to BIll and Kathy Hussey and Phil and Kathy Buskey.
Winners for best decorated boats were Pat and Roxanne Gorham, Joel Tardiff and Gerard Bergeron, with honorable mention going to Ron Gatautis.
First place winners were awarded gift certificates for Brian’s Bistro, second place winners received gift certificates for The Bus at Worthley Pond and third place and honorable mentions received certificates for the Gift Shop at Honey Run Campground.
I thank Kathy Barrett for escorting Jolene and Richard in their rounds and for transposing the judges laddering numbers into names and addresses. Also, thank you John and Donna Dickson for the use of their party boat during the judging process. And, of course, we thank everyone around the pond for contributing in a very successful weekend.
