A Christmas miracle in Rumford
To the Editor:
Back on Nov. 7, 2011, a Mary Ann Schlear called me at Riverside Realty to list her home at 1236 Route 2 - Rumford because the roof needed to be replaced and the plumbing in the bathroom was pretty well gone as well as the flooring.
So I did, however, I actually gave no value to the home because it was in such poor condition. I listed the property for its land value alone and desperately found her another home for her to purchase at an exceptional price subject to the sale of property. She was feeling down and out and living with her was daughter in her mid 30's! Neither one working and financially strapped!
On Dec. 23, 2011, I received a phone call at approximately 11 a.m. from Mary all excited: "It's a miracle, a miracle I tell you, Roger! Can you come to my home?"
She asked. I said I would be there at 1 p.m. Well! When I arrived I could not believe my eyes there were men on the roof and men inside the home working in the freezing rain!
Mary greeted me and said: "These men are fixing my roof, my plumbing and bathroom room floor all for nothing!"
I asked how did this come to be and she indicated that she had responded to an ad in the paper that asked if you believe in God and need help call!
And she did. It was ad placed there by the Messianic Church from Shilah Farm, 179 Sinnott Rd., Arundel. And when the pastor received her call a plea for help they responded!
Pastor Deit Abba reached out to his membership and men came fromacross the State to help her for nothing in the spirit giving. Deit Abba, Pastor from Arundel, DiAnne and Wyatt Wadd from Bethel, Barry Wood Crafts from Gilford, and a Mike Sorrento from Sebago.
They worked feverishly around the clock through the bad weather putting on roofing shingles, replacing the bathroom flooring and fixing the plumbing. They were humble and very religeous in their belief.
This was the true meaning of Christmas to me! Though they do not believe themselves in the modern day version of Christmas themselves and all the pomp and circumstances that we have given in to. They, in my opinion, were like true deciples of Christ. A miracle in Rumford!
Mary and her daughter Alana withdrew their property for sale and though I may have lost a sale or two, it was worth it seeing these to ladies gleaming from ear to ear knowing they could stay in the house Mary's parents built in the 60's.
God bless one and all. I wish everyone Happy New Year and hope that we, too, can find in our hearts to pay it forward for someone in need!
