Chamber Chatter

Now that the Fourth of July festivities are over it is time to reflect on the event and its preparation. From all reports, the afternoon and evening activities culminating with the fireworks display (provided by Atlas PyroVision) went really well.

The crowd was estimated at more than 6,000 and they seemed to enjoy everything from the “walk of danger” (I am not quite sure Scot enjoyed it) to the music and the various vendors. Greg Buccina and the rest of the River Valley Fourth of July Celebration committee deserve a lot of credit for their efforts in organizing, arranging and fundraising to make the Fourth of July celebration a success.

I would like to personally thank Janet and Mike Brennick along with Jon and Susan Holmes for making sure the RVCC Lucky Duck Race took place in the Swift River that evening. It was the first time in many years that the race took place and there were a few obstacles that we were unaware of but that crew made sure that the little guys (and girls) made it to the correct destination.

The winners of the race were: first place ($500) Sharon Gardner, second place ($250) Preston Root and third place ($150) Eric Kerr. Congratulations! Jon spent countless hours numbering the ducks and organizing them in bins. He admitted to me the other day that he was getting quite fond of the little creatures!

The Rumford Information Center volunteers and the River Valley Chamber of Commerce also would like to thank Elaine and Tom Dickson for once again beautifying the Rumford Information Center with the nice arrangement of flowers in the flower boxes around the building. They provide the flowers and the work and that is much appreciated by all.

The second leg of the three-part 5K race/walk series hosted by the River Valley Rotary and the River Valley Chamber of Commerce will take place in Dixfield on August 21st. It is the ninth Annual Dixfield Bicentennial Race/Walk. The elite sponsors are Bangor Savings Bank and The Fitch Company. The race will begin at 9 a.m. and will start at the Village Green. Please call or email if you would like more information about this event.
