Positive and uplifting experience
To the Editor:
I was a participant in the annual "Voice of the Valley" competition this November.
It's an incredible positive and uplifting experience, watching talented people of all ages put themselves out there to benefit a great cause -- it is a vocal competition that fundraises for the Cancer Action Network, a sister organization to the American Cancer Society.
I know we all have been touched in some way by cancer; we may have lost loved ones or dear friends -- and we want to find the cure.
What better way to spend a Saturday evening than to help fight cancer, all the while watching the talent that has been raised in our community.
I want to thank the judges, Hugh Rowley, Tammy Schmersal-Burgess, Eric Schmersal, Bob Bohren and Nancy Demilner-Demings for their helpful criticism and tips, and for their in us, the performers.
I want to thank Dan Richard for the music and for helping to organize this worthwhile event, and Craig Zurhorst for controlling the lights.
I also want to thank all of the sponsors, who are too many to list, but especially I want to extend a "thank you" to Oxford Federal Credit Union for sponsoring the winning teenager, E&E Awards for providing the beautiful trophies, and most especially, Diane Mitchell and Peggy Brigette, for all the hard work they put into this worthwhile event.
