Testify to support bill for Vietnam Veterans Day
To the Editor:
As many of you know, a constituent and schoolmate of mine, and a Vietnam veteran has asked me to submit a bill for legislation: LD 20 "An Act Designating March 29th Vietnam Veterans Day" for the state of Maine.
Well, the time has come.
I have spoken with many of you regarding my passion also for this bill and what it means to thousands of Vietnam Veterans here in Maine!
A public hearing for bill LD 20 "An Act Designating March 29th Vietnam Veterans Day" has been scheduled for Monday, Jan 31 2011 10 a.m., Room 214 in the Cross Building.
If you support this bill, I would appreciate it if you wouldn't mind coming to the meeting to testify in support of the bill. I know that the more people who come to testify in support of this bill, the better chances of the State and Local Government Committee (this is the committee that will be listening and hearing this bill) will vote in favor of this bill.
Please provide written testimony if you can and bring 20 copies. Please, speak from the heart, this is what they need to hear to/and gain their support.
If the bill passes out of committee, then the bill will go to the house floor for the entire House of
Representatives and then on to the Senators to vote on this bill to pass legislation. (The committee will not be voting on this day.
They usually schedule a "work session" about a week later for the committee members themselves to discuss this bill and will vote at that time. At the public hearing, they are just there to hear your side on how you feel about this bill.
I would appreciate your support. Please feel free to spread the word. The more testimony and support we have, the better chances we have. I would love to see the state capitol overrun by veterans and supporters on January 31st. Thank you!
