What's up at town hall?
To the Editor:
“Ignorance Is Strength," words by George Orwell in his book 1984. It actually meant that the ignorance of the people is the strength of the government: if people do not know things, or do not have the information to make informed decisions, they are like subjects, not free citizens.
The last entry for the Town of Dixfield selectboard meeting minutes on the town’s website is November 8, 2010. Three meetings have taken place since then.
So, what’s up at town hall?
Anyone interested in the minutes for the Dec. 13, 2010 and Jan. 10, 2011 meetings can email me at mckaydan2@gmail.com. Mr. Tibbetts has DVDs of Jan 10, 2010 meeting at Ellis Variety, free for the taking.
For those interested in the wind project proposed for Colonel Holman Ridge, a meeting with Eaton and Peabody is scheduled for February 9, 2011 at 5 p.m. at the town office. Eaton and Peabody is a group of lawyers who work with wind developers and towns in TIF negotiations.
Mr. Tibbetts and I have expended much effort attempting to keep the citizens of Dixfield informed, especially concerning the wind project. What is happening at town hall make us nervous. We want the people to make the final decision on this project. We need your help.
Freemont Tibbetts
and Dan McKay,
