The Mac McHale Tribute Band has been formed in remembrance of Allan 'Mac' McHale, who played Appellation , Gospel, Traditional Irish and Old Time radio music in his 65-year career to thousands of people from Colorado to Canada and Maine to Florida.
Back in early November 2012 Skye Theatre director Phill McIntyre had his annual call from Mac McHale to book a date at Skye.
Mother's Day May 12, 2013 was the date chosen.. Mac and Phill had many phone conversations over the years.. This one was longer than usual and the topic was Mac's longevity in the music business, his 80th birthday, and his plans for the future were to continue as always, booked solid all year long.. Mac made an interesting comment to Phill which just two days later would come to fruition. Mac said, “It's far better to wear out than to rust out”
On November 11, while performing at a Grange Hall in Bangor, by coincidence the same place his musical career had begun as a teenager, 65 years earlier, Mac was taken ill onstage and passed that night while at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, following a heart attack.
“We were all in shock” said McIntyre who was in Canada at a music convention at the time. Upon his return, he was in contact with Sally Roc to see if the “Gang” would like to fulfill the date Mac had booked, with a tribute concert. The response was immediate from not only the band members but musicians from the other bands Mac had been involved with over the years...
The show will include Emery Hutchins (Two Old Friends), Smokey Val (The Old Time Radio Gang), John & Sally Roc (The Old Time Radio Gang), Carolyn Hutton (Taylor's Grove), Herman McGee (The Radio Gang) and Erica Brown (special guest of The Old Time Radio Gang).
